I had a lovely birthday and the dining room is done

Things are still going really well with the dining room project. The painting is all done and I put a lovely border around the walls, and we have had the chairs re-upholstered, plus the wood has been treated, so everything looks great and is ready to go back in to the room.

Tomorrow I am having the wooden floor fitted, it should only take a few hours, we have a chap coming in is going to put down underlay and then fit a real oak laminate floor for us. That should be really good and look really classy.

My birthday party was a great success and everyone had a great time. More than 100 people turned up and we partied till after midnight. When he got back to the house with a few of the people who had kept their children here with the babysitters, they had a look at our kitchen and they were very impressed. Several people had never even heard of and over the range microwave, and just assumed that they would desktop things only, and it provoked several conversations about people getting over the range microwaves for themselves.

So that was really lovely and it was great that people thought that what we have done on such a tight budget with our kitchen and appliances worked so well.

So things are going really great now, the birthday party was lovely and I'm really proud about what we did with that and I had a lovely time and I'm going to remember it for the rest of my life, but the kitchen is looking great and people have been very impressed with what I did in terms of getting an all sorted. And now on top of that the dining room is also complete within the next two days.

I am beginning to wonder what I'm going to do after this, because once the house is sorted at the pace I'm going, am I going to want to just stop and do nothing, or am I going to need another outlet. I think I might need to get a hobby or some sort of fitness thing going so that I'm not bored.

Birthday party sorted, kitchen sorted

Things are progressing well on all fronts in all domestic projects at the moment, which is wonderful and far better news than I was hoping to deliver through my blog here.

My birthday is completely sorted now. The venue and DJ are sorted, the catering is sorted, I have more than 100 people turning up, and we also have some entertainment in the evening sorted out. We also have hired two babysitters who will be at our house all evening, so we can have a kids party then some of the kids can go home, or go back to our house for the evening while the adults have a party as well.

It's not something I've ever really done before and I'm really looking forward to having a big birthday party so that everyone I know can be invited to have a great time. So fingers crossed that's a real positive that will live long in the memory.

The kitchen is now completely sorted. It all looks brilliant, the over the range microwave and the cooker are both fantastic quality and we are both really pleased with them, and the new look kitchen on such a low budget looks fantastic.

Which means I'm now already starting the next project, which is to do the dining room. I decided I didn't want is taking out of the dining room, pull the carpet up and do the painting, we are then having a hardwood floor fitted so that it has a different feel to the rest of the downstairs. That should be done within two weeks, then it's on to the last bit which is the upstairs bedrooms.

So I'm really pleased with progress generally and I'm feeling really good about myself. I do sometimes get anxious about things, like when I was worrying about the over the range microwave, and also a bit anxious about bits of my birthday party, but thankfully I got through all that and things seem to be really great at the moment. In my next blog post I'm going to update you on the dining room project, and hopefully I'll have great news in terms of it being finished and hopefully be able to tell you about the birthday party.

Kitchen project is progressing well

I got some great news to report to anybody that might actually be reading what I'm writing, and that is that both the over the range microwave and the range cooker have both arrived and look great.

The carpenter put the over the range microwave into existing cupboard space today, and built it to look really good and properly fitted, and tomorrow he is going to cut out part of the worktop, edge it all off and put the new range cooker in below it. So progress is being made and I think by the end of the week everything will pretty much be in place.

That will be great because I can then spend the weekend tidying up and doing a few little bits and pieces, then clean clean and then get ready to go onto the next stage which I will talk about my next blog post.

I think the only snag is that I'm not happy with where a couple of the electrical sockets are at the moment. I think I can live with it, but I'm having second thoughts on whether I should finish off while leaving them in that place. Although my husband did point out we could run an extension cable around the back of the cupboards so that we can then get the carpenter to drill a hole into the worktop so we can feed cables through, that might be a good way of putting hidden electrical points in somewhere else cheaply.

Thankfully, where the over the range microwave is, we had a light which was plugged into a standard fitting socket, so we had just been able to plug it in without any electrical work having to be done, so not having to hire an electrician to chase cables is really good.

I think I'm going to have a week off while I plan the next stage of the project, which is going to probably be painting the bedrooms, although a little bit of me is itching to do the dining room instead. I got a good idea for that and I'd like to perhaps get that done first, but I'm thinking about that now and I'm hoping that indecision on that does not do the same to me as it did with the over the range microwave obsession.

Also planning a birthday party

On top of undertaking this house regeneration project, starting with the kitchen, It is my birthday soon and I want to have a big party for once. Usually my birthday is a really low key affair and I often just spend the evening sitting at home with my husband, and sometimes he even goes out because I tell him I don't want to make a fuss.

But this year I really wanted to be different for some reason. I'm thinking it's because there is so much change going on in our lives now, and this seems a great time to have a big party. The kitchen project is coming along really well, I have now finally decided on the over the rangemicrowave that I'm going to buy having seen it in a shop, and rates them over range microwave reviews online, which has meant I'm now over that decision making progress.

So I'm thinking that it's better to do it this year rather than maybe not do it is all for a lot of years. And that's why am planning to have a big party. I've rented a local venue that can hold about 200 people and I've hired a DJ.

The next things I am going to do is get some food sorted out and get a photo booth company in. I'm also going to try and get something silly like a magician or something as well.

I think it should be really good. I've already invited everyone on Facebook and had 35 people say they are coming, which is really good, and I haven't even sent an email round work yet and I've only told a few of my family and close friends. So I should be able to at least get 100 people there, which would be really awesome and would make me really happy and hopefully give me and everybody else a very memorable experience.

So I'm happy at the moment, I'm making progress on our kitchen project, have ordered the over the range microwave and the range cooker, and am happy with those choices. It's really good and I don't feel anxious anymore.

Right, so things are looking good and now got this blog post out of the way I can head off to bed happy. It's nice to be out of write things down at the end of the day and clear my mind, it certainly feels like I have made progress today.

Agonising about the best over the range microwave to the point of distraction

I think the title of this blog post says it all and is far more imaginative than my previous one. Basically, we are having a range cooker and an over the range microwave fitted into our existing kitchen by a carpenter. We are not having a full new kitchen install, we are basically having the old one adapted and renovated so that we get a fresh look without the major upheaval and also not as much investment.

I spent the past few days looking into which range cooker and over the range microwave to buy. By putting in quite a lot of research, I have narrowed it down to 2 or three in each category. But the problem is that I'm really struggling with the over the range microwave. I keep reading over range microwave reviews, but none of them are hugely conclusive. I'm actually thinking it might be best for me to get it narrowed down to 3, then find local stores that have them in stock and go and look at them physically, then see where the best prices are.

This is what I do, I fixate on small things and get anxious about them to the point of distraction. And if I don't get the decision made quickly, then it starts to take of my life and I end up in a bad place emotionally, you wouldn't think that over the range microwave or a range cooker would do that to someone, and it's not just about that, is just about small life decisions that seem to make me more anxious than they should. But it's not new and it's something I have always done and something I do struggle to deal with at times.

So in terms of this being a plan for my project at home, the first thing I need to do in the next couple of days is to seriously make a decision on which three over the range microwaves I'm going to look into, find out where they are stock locally and go and have a look and a chat about them. Once I've done that I can look the best price and get them ordered and sitting in the kitchen ready to be installed by the carpenter. Then it will be the same plan for the cooker and then the same plan for the other small things I'm hoping to buy.

Unimaginative first blog post title

Sorry but that's the best title I can come up with right now, I'm new to blogging and not very creative, this is more just me bashing out words that are in my head because I want to.

My name is Mary and I'm 43, I live with my husband and three children and have a pretty good life in most respects.

The reason for starting this blog is quite simple, I'm a little bit bored and also I want to make it into a project journey blog. We are going to redecorate and rejuvenate our home. We have lived in it quite a while and it's starting to look tired, and as I have a bit of time on my hands we decided now was the ideal time to do it, before we start focusing on what we want to do with the next part of our lives.

I'm starting with the kitchen, and then moving onto bedrooms, then the living room, then the dining room and finally an entertainment area outside in the back garden.

So the first thing I'm going to do will be to talk about the kitchen. That's what I'm going to do in my next blog post, then I'm going to progress on that and then blog about the next room I'm going to do after that. It's not really going to be that interesting to anybody, so I apologise in advance if there is nothing spectacular here to entertain you, but if you are interested in the progress and may be getting a few ideas from somebody doing a house project, then you might find this useful.

In terms of personal stuff, I may also rant on here a bit. I suffer from anxiety at times and I can fixate on things which get on top of me, I'm hoping that if I can get things out here, order my thoughts and then publish them, that I will be able to better clear my mind and focus on what is important. That's a bit of a hope, but you never know, I had a diary when I was little and that used to help me clarify my thoughts, as it did for millions of other people, and I don't see why having a blog would be any different.
